Ethan wanted something totally different from the norm for his senior portraits.  We’re from a “small-ish” city in Michigan – Jackson to be exact. We joked about doing an overnight session and hitting up Chicago, and then moved on of talking different ideas.   A couple days later, his mom reached out and said, “actually, yes, let’s do it! Let’s go to Chicago!”  

And we got to planning!

We kicked off our 4 hour trek heading West and it was a fabulous time!  Once we arrived, we started off by picking a random parking structure in the heart of the city and it turned out to be one of my favorite spots of the day!

We then made our way down through the Magnificent Mile finding side streets and fun architecture to utilize.

Now because this was August of 2020, the streets were still unusually clear for us, so if I’ve got a senior looking to do a session in Chicago again – be prepared that it will likely NOT be this empty!

Finally, we ended day 1 as the sun was setting near Navy Pier. Ethan wanted some soccer photos but with his suit. I had a vision with the skyline in the background and thought Navy Pier would be amazing!  Well, Navy Pier was closed because of the Vid. We ended up finding this grate that he could stand on and getting a great upward shot with the skyline and his stepdad (being over 6 feet tall) was able to hoist my light up high enough to light him.

We woke up early the next morning and hit up a couple other locations, like the Bean, Millennium Park, and along the L train before heading back to Michigan.
